Where do you work?Skill Remodeling Inc. exclusively serves Southwest Washington and Oregon. Most of our jobs are within Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania Counties. What sort of work do you do?We provide complete building contractor services: all aspects of residential construction, from top to bottom. Remodeling and additions are the bulk of our business, but we also build custom homes for the discriminating buyer. We also provide commercial tenant improvement services and construction consulting. Do you do design work?We provide our own design services for much of our work. Projects that require engineering or extensive custom architecture are handled by a trusted architect that we have worked with for many years. Do you charge for estimates?A ball-park estimate is provided free of charge, but such estimates are a "best guess" only. A detailed and itemized bid will be required before any job is begun. These bids are not free as they take time to properly assemble. We want both parties to enter the job with both eyes open; your home is important and work in it should not be estimated hastily. Do you do your own work?Yes and no. We employ highly skilled professional carpenters who have a wide variety of experience, but we also know our limitations. We subcontract all electrical, plumbing, flooring, and roofing work as well as large amounts of drywall finishing (we're good at sheetrock, and we can save you money, but large jobs can be done more economically by a drywall subcontractor). We do all of the finish carpentry work ourselves as well as all of the framing and most concrete work. Bottom line is that the job will be done well by top professionals in the industry. Some things we don't do ourselves either because we know others can do it better (i.e. roofing) or it is simply not legal for us to do so (i.e. electrical). Whatever the case, ALL work is supervised by us and must meet our standards before being passed on to you. Are you licensed?Yes, Skill Remodeling Inc. is licensed, bonded, and insured. Do not use a contractor who is not! All subcontractors are licensed, bonded and insured too. Do you have any references?Yes, we have lots of references. To protect their privacy though, references are only available upon request. Do I have to get a building permit?Probably yes. There are a few exceptions, but in general it is a good idea. Can I do some of the work myself?Yes. We have had several customers do their own cleanup and demolition. Not very exciting, but they saved some money. Others have hired Skill Remodeling Inc. to manage only part of the job, such as framing and weather proofing. |
